"One records high definition video to SD card media, which has been prevalent in digital still photography, but now that the capacities are growing, we're able to fit a minimum of forty minutes of high quality, high definition video. And the other format is the DVD discs that are available today. We've developed a new format called AVC HD which allows us to fit high definition content on existing three inch DVD discs."
Which can be played in BluRay DVD players. High definition camcorders are priced quite a bit higher than other models….the new ones from Panasonic will sell for 14 to 15 hundred dollars. About how quickly high definition camcorders will penetrate the market, Vitti says….
"We could probably expect to see about …definitely fifty percent of the market by 2010. Maybe even sooner… it depends on how quickly the price points get below one thousand dollars and that's when , I believe, it's really going to start taking off." And that will start to happen in maybe a year or two? "Yeah, it's possible that by this time next year we'll be talking about one thousand dollar camcorders."
