Another Music Player With WiFi

Techstination feature for Thursday, January 25, 2007

Another music player with WiFi. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Microsoft has the Zune...which allows owners to share music...on a limited basis. Now Sandisk has announced the Sansa Connect. Unlike the Zune... it will give owners a live connection wherever they have WiFi access....to subscription services such as Real Networks' Rhapsody....and Internet radio. Other new products from SanDisk include a pocket sized digital video player...the Sansa View....and a platform called USBTV...that will allow digital content to be played on any TV. About his ability to take market share from Apple, SanDisk CEO Eli Harari says...

"We have a very broad product family now. We cover all the space...giving consumers choice both in terms of the price range...all the way from 39.99 to 300 bucks, and very importantly, open choice in terms of subscription music for various providers. We don't force consumers to use just our subscription. So choice and freedom and affordability are going to, I believe, that we will be able to gain market share and we're certainly in this thing for the long term." How much market share do you think you can gain? Today, we have about 19 percent by unit, I'd like us to get to about 30, 35 percent. I think we can do so in the next few years."
