Fast Prints... For Less Money

Fast prints for less money. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. With the high cost of ink jet cartridges, makers of laser printers are finding new markets opening up in homes and home offices. They used to be expensive, but not any more. Even color laser printers have dropped in price….selling for under 400 dollars and in some cases under 300. OKI Printing Solutions C3400N can zip out 16 pages with color per minute….and is easily shared on a network. About typical printing costs, Oki Data Americas chief executive Stewart Krentzman says…

"I think an inkjet will typically cost you 25 cents a page, our machines will run, depending on the model, of course, we're probably as low as 6 cents a page, probably up to 17 or 18."

And while color photo printing isn't quite up to the quality level you can get from a good ink jet printer… the results on the C3400N are respectable. And says Krentzman…

"We have finally, after a lot of work with paper manufacturers, authorized and certified photo paper for some of our machines. And that cost advantage based on what laser offers versus ink, will now be transferred to photo printing as well."

Keep in mind…a laser printer will take up more desk space than a typical inkjet printer. Oki has plenty of competition from Hewlett Packard, Dell, Samsung and others. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
