"What's new about it is it has a ten times optical zoom lens, much more powerful than any of the other Elphs, and it's the first PowerShot that can do HD movies. So it will do 720P resolution and 30 frames per second for up to 26 minutes per clip."
With about 40 percent of U.S. households now having invested in high definition screens…the market for high definition camcorders is growing. Will the TX1 take away some of those sales….
"It's going to be a matter of preference." This is shooting HD movies… "Yeah, it is. And this is the 720P which for a lot of people is great. But the true HD camcorders are up to 1080, so that's something to consider. If you're really a video connoisseur you might want to angle towards one of them. But I think for an all around camera, it's tough to beat the TX1."
The camera is due to arrive in stores this month for about five hundred dollars. A stand alone HD camcorder will probably cost you at least twice the price. Keep in mind that to shoot high definition video….you'll most likely have to invest in a high capacity SD memory card that can hold four or eight gigabytes. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
