Using a mobile phone….on your home wireless network. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. There are a number of mobile handsets on the market today….with built in WiFi capability….and more are on the horizon. They let you browse the Web and use other Internet applications…without using up mobile minutes. Actiontec Electronics in the meantime is getting ready to introduce a first….a wireless home router designed to let mobile phone calls to be transferred to wireless Internet connection. Actiontec Marketing Director Lesley Kirchman…

"What's really great about this product is, when you come home and let's say you're talking on the phone or even if you're not, if you have a hybrid phone, what it'll do is it will recognize that there's a wireless network at home and it will identify it and switch over all your cellular phone calls over to the wireless network. What that means for you is now if you weren't getting the best cellular signal in the house, you'll now get a much better wireless signal so you'll get all your phone calls. You'll be able to dial out. And oftentimes it won't use the minutes that you've already pre-paid for with your cellular carrier."

The company hasn't yet announced which carriers will allow calls to be handed off from their networks to the Internet. But Kirchman says set up should be simple…

"It's got smart technology built into it that tells it what it's connected to and then it auto-configures itself."

The Wireless FMC router is scheduled to arrive in the next few months….for under 180 dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
