A Storage Box for the Net... ClipMarks

Techstination feature for Wednesday, March 28, 2007

A storage box for all that stuff you look up on the Net. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. If you're like most other folks…you've got loads of bookmarks in your Web browser….and wind up printing out lots of pages too when you find information worth saving. A company called Amplify is out with a new version of a browser plug-in called ClipMarks…that provides a better way of storing and sharing. CEO Eric Goldstein….

"It's a free FireFox extension or plug-in for Internet Explorer. And once you add it to your browser, picture the print button in your browser and when you want to print something you click print…with ClipMarks you get a clip button. And anytime you want to clip something you click the clip button. And once you've done that you basically can put your mouse over any element of a page and orange borders will surround it. Click inside the orange borders and you will clip that piece of a page. If the orange lines don't give you exactly what you want, you can highlight it, just like you would with copy/paste. So you can get sentences, words, two paragraphs, images, video, it doesn't matter. Once you've clicked that clip button, you've turned your browser into clip mode. And then you select anything from the page, you can save it, you could email it to people, print it even."

The clips are stored on the ClipMarks site. Log in wherever you happen to be from the Web….and it's all available. It's free to use. Goldstein says the site may at some point ask for voluntary subscriptions. You can find more information at ClipMarks.com. You can find us at BootCamp.com. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
