Helio hopes to make waves with the Ocean. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Helio...the mobile carrier created through a partnership between Earthlink and South Korea's SK Telecom...has aimed from the start to attract subscribers by offering the kinds of high tech handsets usually only found outside the U.S.. CEO Sky Dayton...the founder of Earthlink....says Helio ended 2006 with about 70 thousand subscribers...and should be over a hundred thousand by the end of June. Many, he hopes, will be attracted by the company's latest device...a dual slider phone...dubbed Ocean...
"Ocean is the first dual sliding handset that has both a full keyboard for dialing and a full keyboard for texting, a QWERTY keypad. Ocean is something Helio has been working on since before we were a company, over two years. We've integrated all the different ways that you want to connect to somebody. Texting, picture and text messaging, email, instant messaging with all the major portals. Even corporate email and calendar and contact sync all in one place. We think of it as the ultimate inbox."
The price of the Helio Ocean....about three hundred dollars. Service plan prices range from 65 to 135 dollars a month. You can find more information at Helio.com. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
