Music on mobile phones....the battle ahead. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Apple is pulling out all the stops ...shifting engineering resources and delaying its new operating system until October....so it can deliver its new iPhone on time by the end of June. It will be sold exclusively by AT&T....but competitors aren't standing still. Samsung, for instance, has the new UpStage double sided phone being sold by Sprint. At Verizon Wireless, David Samberg says...

"There's a lot of attention now to the phones and what can they do. The recent announcement from the computer company, what they're going to be doing, that has sparked a lot of interest in the whole idea of wireless music to your phone."

And the variety of phones capable of downloading, storing and playing MP3 music continues to grow....

"When we launched the service, VCast Music, last January, we really launched with about two phones. Now you're seeing a whole host of phones with all different styles. Some of them are stereo Bluetooth. You can get stereo headsets for all of them. Some of them are flip phones, some of them are what we call the candy bar style. More and more phones are coming out, there's more and more interest, more and more people are using it and discovering the wireless aspect of downloadable music."

Sprint has already lowered the price of over the air music downloads to 99 cents. Many wouldn't be surprised if others followed with new services and handsets....to compete with the upcoming iPhone. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
