More Video Games Linked to Movies

Techstination feature for Tuesday, May 22, 2007

Once again….video game tie-ins with movies are big business. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. They are rolling out one after another. Spider-Man, Shrek….and Pirates of the Caribbean. And video game companies are hoping the titles that are being released along with the movies will be blockbusters too. Disney Interactive…has published Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End… on seven different platforms… (sound) Producer Tim Fitzrandolph…..

"You get to play through Dead Man's Chest, the second film and the upcoming film, At World's End. So actually we've got two movies worth of content in there. But it doesn't follow the films exactly. We actually tried to expand on the films as much as we could. So there will be locations and scenes in the game exclusive to the game that fit within the overall story, that you didn't get a chance to see in the film."

The high definition graphics in the Xbox360 and PlayStation 3 versions are movie-like. On the Nintendo Wii version, the effort went more into making use of the motion sensing controllers….

"So what we've done is, we use the nunchuck attachment. You move your character around with the joystick in the traditional sense. But all the combat in the game, so all the sword combat is done by swinging the Wii remote. So we're definitely encouraging players to kind of stand up in their living rooms and swing the remote around and really feel like they're involved in a sword fight."

With two remotes, two players can enter into a duel mode. One thing missing… the voices of many of the original actors….but the stand-in sound alikes do a credible job. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
