"The threat landscape is in its early stages and its changing very quickly. The threats are growing in number as well as evolving very quickly in terms of sophistication. There are several new threats that have been identified recently that are fairly risky for the user. The first of which …the new types are called the Snoopware threat, which is basically spyware targeted specifically to your mobile phone or smartphone. And so with this type of Snoopware, a hacker can actually remotely activate the microphone or the camera on your device to spy on your conversations or take pictures or look at your call log…see who is calling you and who you are calling."
Perhaps the biggest threat is the possibility of losing your phone along with lots of personal data on it. That could include bank account numbers and passwords. Symantec Mobile Security Suite…which sells for about 70 dollars …allows you to password protect that data….and even encrypt confidential files. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
