"Years ago, during the heyday of film, people would take pictures sometimes out of necessity. A relative was coming over and you might not see them for a while so you want to take a picture of the family. Then you put away the camera for a couple months. Then you went on vacation, so you took out the camera and you took pictures on your vacation, you got your pictures developed, and then you put your camera away. What we find now, with digital, is that people are finding excuses to go out and take pictures."
One of Nikon's newest point and shoot models is the P5000, a ten megapixel camera that takes optional wide angle or telephoto lenses. It sells for about 400 dollars. Nikon is also selling the D40x…a consumer priced, small and easy to use 10 megapixel SLR. Why go for that instead of a point and shoot?
"The ability to change lenses to shoot an architectural shot with a wide angle lens. Or to shoot their son or daughter making that game ending goal in a soccer match with a telephoto zoom lens is not only fun, but affordable in today's market. And a lot of people are finding it just the way to go."
