The Best Mobile Phone for Music?

Techstination feature for Thursday, July 5, 2007

The best mobile phone for music? The iPhone has competition. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. As Apple's iPhone went on sale exclusively in AT&T and Apple stores….competitors….Verizon Wireless and Sprint….sent out press releases about their music capable phones and services. Sprint has announced a new handset from LG called Muziq. Sprint's Michelle Mermelstein…

"This is the first device from Sprint that offers the capability of taking a four gigabyte memory card. When you think about that in terms of songs, which is what's important to music lovers, it's about four thousand songs. It's pretty hefty for such a compact little device. So you have that. Another thing that's unique to Muziq by LG is this is only the second device in the U.S. that includes a built in FM transmitter. The first phone was a device called Fusic by LG which was also exclusive to Sprint debuted last year. So this is kind of kind of the big brother to Fusic by LG called Musiq by LG."

With a two year contract…it arrives on the fifteenth of this month for 99 dollars….about four hundred less than the least expensive iPhone. It doesn't have all of the iPhone's capabilities. But it is a slim clamshell style phone… that you can operate as a music player while closed…using a front touchscreen wheel similar to LG's Chocolate phones. Sprint is also selling Samsung UpStage music phone….which can hold up to a two gigabyte memory card…for under 80 dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
