Printing on the Cheap

Techstination feature for Friday, August 20, 1999

Computers aren't the only things getting cheaper all the time. Have you checked out the latest color printers? I'm Fred Fishkin with Bootcamp, a report on computers and technology. Hewlett Packard, Canon, Epson...some of the big names in printers are offering a lot for your money these days. But when it comes to price and features, it is hard to beat the new Z series from Lexmark.

"They all offer 12 hundred by 12 hundred DPI, which is the highest resolution on the planet in terms of an ink jet. 12 hundred by 12 hundred DPI is about 40 percent more dots per inch resolution than the next nearest branded competitor."

Lexmark VP Paul Johns. And the prices start, believe it or not, at just 50 dollars for the Lexmark Z11 after a 50 dollar rebate...

"With our introduction of the Z11, we've really re-invented the opening or entry level printer category. This product produces such a high rate of speed and such a high quality of output that it's difficult for most people to understand why they would need any more expensive printer."

At the top of the Z series line is the Z51...

"Z51 is a ten page a minute printer and it will print output quality as good on plain paper as you would get from any other printer on high resolution paper."

The price after rebate, under two hundred dollars.
