Sony Counts on New Games to Push PS3

Techstination feature for Tuesday, July 24, 2007

Sony counts on new games to revive the Playstation 3. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. The high powered game machine from Sony with a Blu-Ray high definition DVD player….has trailed Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii console in sales. The five and six hundred dollar price tags may have something to do with that. And discounting the 60 gigabyte version to 499 dollars until supplies are gone may not give Sony that much of a boost. What the company hopes will make a difference….are the games that will arrive from Sony Computer Entertainment. Worldwide studios head Phil Harrison….

"By any measure, what we're creating inside our worldwide studios developers are reaching the highest points of technical, creative and artistic expression on any platform, anywhere in the world. You saw from one extreme to the other, Echo Chrome, a beautifully realized idea with very simple graphics, but something that will become incredibly compelling puzzle game to play. At the opposite end of the scale, Kill Zone 2 for Playstation 3. A very rich, visceral what we call the theatre of war coming right into your living room in this incredibly realistic experience. That will be supported by a raft of exclusive titles that will be supporting the Playstation 3."

Much of the success of Sony's Playstation 2 had to do with big exclusive games. Sony is turning to its own studios this time to try to do it again. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
