An Ultra Light Tablet PC

Techstination feature for Friday, August 24, 2007

An ultra light tablet PC. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It weighs about a pound and a half….and is a tiny clamshell style notebook PC. But the screen can also be swiveled around for use as a tablet. The Fujitsu LifeBook U810 is one of the new breed of small PCs on the market….and director of mobile product marketing Paul Moore says…

"It's a full Windows machine, running Windows Vista or XP, has a gigabyte of memory, 40 gig storage, touch screen and a convertible form factor so you can take it from a notebook to a slate. It has USB, it also has an SD slot and compact flash. In addition to that, there's a port replicator connector and you can put a dongle on there that comes standard with the unit, and it allows you to connect to Ethernet or to an external display."

The U810 is priced at 999, making it one of the more affordable miniature PCs on the market. 5 and a half hours of battery life is a plus. On the minus side….you won't have the horsepower or the memory that you would get in a full sized notebook. Those qualities are there in another new model…the 3 and a half pound LifeBook T2010. It is also a tablet with a 12 inch display…

"Memory goes up to 4 gig. Processors are the U7500 or the U7600. Drives go from 60 gig to 160 gig and the battery life on this is an amazing 9 hours with a 6 cell battery."

The price starts at 16 hundred dollars. The new LifeBooks are scheduled to ship next month. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
