Do it yourself high tech home security. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. There are plenty of network cameras on the market that link to your high speed Internet connection at home and allow you to monitor them from just about anywhere. iControl Networks, which has attracted an investment from Intel, has a do it your self system that can use wired or wireless cameras….sensors….and can control ZWave enabled light switches as well. CEO Reza Raji …

"You would connect the iControl gateway to your router and basically that's all it does. It discovers our server, it discovers the service, it discovers the various other devices that come in your starter kit, including motion sensors, door sensors, cameras, ant ehre's dozens of different devices you can pick and choose from on top of your start kit to really sprinkle your house, if you will, with all these different things. You can monitor and control traffic, with people coming and going, temperature, for example, if you have the thermostat….and set up rules and events so you can kind of know what's happening at your home without even being there using your Web browser of cell phone."

There's no software to install…you access the iControl gateway through a Web browser from a PC on the same network. Set up is simple. Keep in mind…this isn't a substitute for a central station monitored security system. An Advanced Starter Kit sells for 250 dollars and there is a fifteen dollar monthly service fee.
