Hewlett Packard Pushes Print 2.0

Techstination feature for Thursday, September 6, 2007

Hewlett Packard pushes Print 2.0 Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. The number one maker of both personal computers and printers is spending three hundred million dollars…using celebrities such as singer Gwen Stefani….to push people to print more. For instance….says Vyomesh Joshi, who heads HP's printer business…consumers will be able use professionally created and branded templates for a variety of projects…

"So like Gwen Stefani. Her content will be available on the Web, free. You could take your pictures and put them into a big book or into a greeting card. So taking the professional content and combining with your personal content and then print it."

HP has a new line up of printers it is selling as part of the campaign. You may be thinking to yourself…wait a minute….wasn't the new digital age suppose mean more screens and digital storage…and less paper? Joshi says…think again…

"In 1984, when was the first article written about paperless office, if you think about what has happened in 23 years… paper consumption has gone up by ten fold. The power of paper is it's the cheapest storage….it's the way we communicate."

HP Executive VP Vyomesh Joshi. By the way…he says so far….Kodak's push into the printing business with models that cut printing prices….. has not had an impact on his company's sales. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin
