"The big additions are going to be video out, which allows you to take UMD movies or video off a memory stick such as a skateboarding accident that you have on a personal video and actually blow it up to a full standard definition screen in 480p. You can also play games at 480 by 272 resolution, which creates kind of a letterbox effect on a large screen. It basically turns your PSP into a portable video player that you can blow up on a larger screen. It also adds more RAM space...so the RAM allows for faster load times for games. Overall it's a slimmer, lighter, sleeker model. It's a third lighter. It's twenty percent thinner. It's just a more portable product for us now and I think people are really going to enjoy it."
The PSP has trailed Nintendo's DS and DS Lite in sales. Sony hopes to change that with the new designs and capability. A limited edition bundle is available now....for about 200 dollars. A stand alone 170 dollar model arrives later this month....and next month...a special white PSP Star Wars edition will go on sale. Sony is selling the video out cables separately for 20 dollars. Sony has more plans in the works to add GPS capability and more to the PSP. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
