Sharing Media From Your Mobile Phone

Techstination feature for Monday, September 24, 2007

Sharing media from your mobile phone. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Mobile phone companies typically charge extra for services that let you take pictures with your phone….and send them to someone elses. A company called ShoZu.com …has been building up a base of fans and users who find it an easier, cheaper way to share. Senior VP Dean Wood….says you can snap a picture with your phone….and have it sent to email addresses…or Web sites…

"In terms of uploading to the Web, it could be to a social networking site, photo sharing, video sharing, it could be to a blog, it could be to a personal email address. The ShoZu user configures their ShoZu experience to define where they want the media to go and then we route that media for them."

It's free. The company has signed deals with some handset makers, including Motorola and Samsung, to have the software pre-installed. But you can download it yourself..

"You can download the client from the ShoZu.com Web site. We have over 250 different handsets supported from the Web site today. We're adding new handsets all the time and we have versions for all the leading operating systems and obviously Java being the predominant variant if you like."

It works with video as well…and besides downloading…you can subscribe to what are called ZuCasts ….content created by media companies that you can watch on your handset. You can find more information at ShoZu.com. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
