New Elements From Adobe

Techstination feature for Friday, October 26, 2007

New Elements from Adobe. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. When it comes to image editing software, Adobe is the most respected and most widely used name in the business. Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 is the latest version aimed at consumers... using much of the technology behind the professional Photoshop package. Product management director Jim Mohan says for instance...

"Photoshop CS3 has come out with some new technologies to align and blend photos together. One of the ways we use it is in a new tool called photo merge group shot. Let's say you're at a family reunion or a Thanksgiving dinner and you say...everybody get together...and you take a shot and you say let me take a few more. You take a few more because invariably someone is closing their eyes or not smiling. Now you can combine them together. All you need to do is stack up those three or four not so great shots on our screen and then scribble on which person you want to keep from each shot."

The idea is to make sophisticated tools simple to use. There are lots of free tools out there for editing pictures and organizing them....Microsoft includes the capability in Vista, Google has Picasa...and even Adobe has Photoshop Album Starter Edition free for beginners. But says Mohan...

"What people sometimes find is that they want to do more."

And Photoshop Elements opens that door. You can find it for about 90 dollars. For about 140 dollars ...you can find it bundled with Premier Elements for working with video. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
