ATI Updates TV on Your PC Solutions

Techstination feature for Monday, October 15, 2007

TV on your PC…the solutions multiply. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. ATI, the graphics company owned by AMD, is out with half a dozen new devices designed to allow computer users to watch and record TV. What's new with the TV Wonder 600 and 650 series devices from ATI and solutions from other manufacturers as well…is the ability to receive high definition signals and take shows along with you on iPods and other portable devices. ATI's Matt Kreiner…

"In the box is an application called ATI Catalyst Media Center. You can do all of your TV recording, You can pause, record, fast forward and rewind your TV content. With that application you can also stream it to your portable media players such as the iPod, the Zune player from Microsoft, the Creative Zen. Different formats and different flavors of video can be converted from your content that you receive through TV Wonder."

Pricing starts at about 99 dollars. The devices from ATI do not include the ability to control cable or satellite boxes using an IR blaster…the kind used by Tivo boxes, for instance. Windows Vista based PCs being sold today include media center functions…and often all that's missing…is a TV tuner to turn them into full fledged DVRs. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
