A wireless, do it yourself, home security system. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It was honored as one of the Innovations Award winners by the Consumer Electronics Association. A company called InGrid has created a versatile, Internet connected, monitored home security system, that users can install themselves in minutes. Sensors are attached to windows and doors…and communicate wirelessly with the InGrid control panel and a cordless handset that doubles as a phone and a second control panel…for, say, the bedroom. Chief operating officer Tricia Kesling says the systems…backed up by batteries…connect to a broadband router…and as a back-up…to a phone line….

"You then go online and you can register your system, begin customizing it to receive the kind of protection as well as the kind of notifications that you'd like to receive when you're not at home."

You can completely control the system and monitor activity via email or from a Web browser, wherever you happen to be….

"My son who comes home from school and gets off the bus, he disarms the system with his user code, he re-arms the systems when he comes into the house. And right from my office I can actually see, I can get an email that tells me that he's arrived home safely."

The systems which start at about 130 dollars for an apartment sized kit…require a professional monitoring service at about 30 dollars a month. You can find more information at ingridhome.com. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
