Global Newspapers... a Click Away

Techstination feature for Thursday, October 25, 2007

Hundreds of newspapers from around the world...just a click away. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Just about every newspaper these days has a Web site where you can browse through articles and keep up with the news. But for the true news junkie....a service called PressDisplay....delivers a stack of global papers to your doorstep...or rather...your screen. And that screen can even be on mobile devices like an iPhone or other smartphone. It is a service created by NewspaperDirect, where strategic development director Igor Smirnoff says...

"This is sort of a Google news, but with premium content, full papers as they're meant to be seen, including crosswords and puzzles, everything is there."

And the content, including the newspaper ads...can be interactive, with links and clickable phone numbers. Articles can be translated into other languages and read back to you as well. In addition...

"We have a very powerful search tool which allows you to instantly scan through the entire collection of papers and find, with a key word, the data, what papers wrote today about this. Furthermore, that keyword can become your personal monitor. And every time, every hour, the system will scan the collection and send you an email with a thumbnail of that page and a link."

Subscriptions start at about ten dollars a month. That gets you the equivalent of one paper per day. And unlimited personal subscription is thirty dollars a month. You can try it for free for 30 days by entering the code Bootcamp, upon registration. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
