SanDisk's PC to TV Video Solution

Techstination feature for Tuesday, October 30, 2007

Transporting video from your PC to your TV. SanDisk's new solution. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Apple has Apple TV. Microsoft has Media Center Extender technology. Both are designed to let you view media content that you have on a computer on a big screen TV in the family room. Now SanDisk is getting into the act with a product it calls TakeTV. Senior Vice President Kate Purmal..

"TakeTV is a device, like a USB flash drive, you plug in, you can drag and drop video files onto it. Pull it out of your computer, walk over to your TV set, plug it into a cradle, which connects through the standard video inputs. And you use the remote control, which is actually the cover on the device, hit the play button, and it plays on your TV."

You can use it for videos that you have created or downloaded through a new service SanDisk has created called FanFare...

"Our focus with FanFare is actually on TV catch up. We recognize that, we know from statistics working with our content partners like CBS that people miss about half the prime time programming that they like to watch every week."

Showtime is another in what SanDisk hopes will become a long list of content partners. Programs typically sell for a dollar 99 per episode....but the hope is lots of free ad support shows will become available. The price for TakeTV starts at 99 dollars for a four gigabyte version. With DVRs and cable boxes that offer programs on demand...the market size for TakeTV is a question mark. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
