Windows for Your Car Jensen's AnyWare PC

Techstination feature for Wednesday, December 26, 2007

Windows for your car. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It's not the windshield we're talking about….it's a full fledged Windows XP tablet style PC….designed to work as a navigation system, media player and more. The Jensen division of AudioVox calls it the Anyware Mobile PC. With a 7 inch screen…it can be mounted in the car…and you can take it with you as a notebook replacement. AudioVox President Tom Malone…

"We were, in looking at this product, determining, what's its main feature. And there really isn't one. It's just got many. And whether that's the portable computing, mobile computing, the 7 inch screen, portable navigation. It's got a 30 gig hard drive so you can put 20 movies on there. Integrated WiFi modem so when you're in a hot spot you can connect right to the Internet or you can plug in a card through the USB, a wireless card. It's also got an integrated Bluetooth data connection, SD card reader so you can import content through your SD card."

There's an FM transmitter to connect to the sound system in your car….and video output as well. It's meant to be taken with you not left in the car…

"We see this as kind of a daily use product that people will use to varying degrees."

The price? About fifteen hundred dollars. Audiovox says as prices come down…and people see more uses for in car computing…especially for entertainment…it's a category that should grow. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
