A New Office for Mac Users

Techstination feature for Tuesday, January 15, 2008

A new office for Mac users. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. With Apple winning more customers for Mac computers…there's one business unit at Microsoft that stands to benefit….. the Mac business unit…which is just out with a new version of Office for the Mac. Marketing manager Amanda Lefebvre….

"The new version of Office for the Mac, it's universal, so it runs natively on both the new Intel based machines and the older PowerPC based machines. So anybody can use it. The big investment that we've made here is making it really easy to access the tools that people need. It's simple to make beautiful documents. It's simple for a second grader to make a beautiful document. It's simple for anybody else that really needs the power of Office for Mac."

Among the key changes…

"Well they will see a new user interface called the elements gallery. It's really brought up to the top, surfaced some of the tools that they might not have been able to find in the menus previously. It's a big important change. The other thing is really a focus on graphics, how to make beautiful graphics really easily. One click easy to make really beautiful graphics in their word documents, their PowerPoint presentations."

Microsoft is selling three new versions of Office for Mac….including a three license home and student edition for about a hundred fifty dollars. Microsoft hopes the compatibility with Office for Windows….will lure Mac owners….who can turn to Apple's iWork.

"So if somebody's working on a Mac or a PC, we want to make sure that they have the access to the Office documents that they need."
