A New Touch Screen Remote From Logitech

Techstination feature for Tuesday, January 22, 2008

A new touch screen remote from Logitech's Harmony line. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Logitech has announced a new addition to its line of universal remote controls….the Harmony One. It includes a 2.2 inch color touch screen to control activities…such as watch a DVD. One of the big pluses in the Harmony line has been the easy set up…and the latest model is no different. The Harmony One…which captured a CES Design and Engineering Award ….arrives next month for about 250 dollars. In the meantime…Logitech's new CEO, Gerald Quindlen says…the company may make more acquisitions in the months to come. The company purchased WiLife …which makes simple to install video security products….last year…

"The WiLife video security products we think could be a very, very attractive market opportunity cause more and more consumers seem interested in having products that allow them to monitor a home or small business. It also compliments our consumer Web cam line beautifully so that's whey we invested in that. But then again, the base is small. We have to be patient, take some time, create the category. It's very fragmented at this point."

Another new product…due to arrive at the end of next month…is the diNovo Mini keyboard. It's sort of a cross between a Bluetooth keyboard that's been miniaturized…and a remote control. It's designed to be used with a home theatre system PC without giving the room a computer center appearance. It will sell for under 150 dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
