"Panasonic right now is selling the world's largest plasma TV which is 103 inches. But this year we've really jumped a to a whole new level at 150 inch. 150 inch is the equivalent of nine 50 inch TVs. It's gigantic…something like eleven feet wide."
Panasonic isn't yet saying how big the price will be. But before you place your order you should know the 103 inch model goes for about 70 thousand dollars. The other big screen news…came from Sony….which began selling the first OLED TV in the U.S. It is just 3 millimeters thick…and only measures 11 inches. But the price is up there…about 25 hundred dollars. Sony Electronics President Stan Glasgow…
"There's never been such a thin display in the world before. It's an emissive material, so it consumes less energy and it has a contrast ratio of a million to one. It looks like it's 3D, it's that good of a picture."
Who will buy such a small screen at such a big price? For now…says Glasgow…early adaptors. But it's just the beginning for OLED…organic light emitting diode technology. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
