Dell, Microsoft and Bono partner in new PCs. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. The Red Project….part of The Global Fund co-founded by U2's Bono….has a couple of new partners. Dell and Microsoft have announced special versions of notebook and desktop computers…and a printer….that will come in red….with as much as 80 dollars of the price being donated to the Red Project to battle AIDS in Africa. Dell consumer sales and marketing vice president Michael Tatelman…

"We've really taken some of our best, award winning products…products that have won editor's choice from all of the magazines and critics in our business and are making them available in red to consumers. And of course, the added benefit that by buying a Dell computer powered by a special version of Windows, you get to save lives."

Microsoft has created a special version of the Windows Vista Ultimate OS for the machines. There's no added cost for consumers. XPS Red notebooks start at about 11 hundred 50 dollars…

"From both Microsoft and Dell, we donate directly to Red. There's no overhead from Red. We feel real good about the fact that this money goes as close to the need of the people that are getting it as possible."
