Adding More Smarts to Digital Cameras... Kodak

Techstination feature for Thursday, February 7, 2008

Adding more smarts…to digital cameras. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It hasn't been easy…but as a company…Kodak can just about say its transformation to a digital company is complete. It has had success with a new line of all in one printers….and has just announced updates to its digital camera line as well. What's new? Chief marketing officer Jeff Hayzlett…

"I think the key thing is that they're smart cameras, they've got Smart Capture. Seven out of ten people today take all their photographs in default mode. And what we've done is we've taken all those…it's difficult for some people…and we go back to the days of George Eastman …where we just click one button and we do the rest. That's what Kodak's trying to do is make it easy, it's been a key component. So we've taken a number of the key functionalities…those settings and put them into the Smart Capture. So it takes care of the backlighting, the fireworks, the candles and all the little things that they'd have to switch back and forth. We just hit one button and take care of it. The other piece is our three inch LED screen. So we've got that much larger so there's more room for people to do it. A lot more touch screen in terms of being able to scroll through photographs, make it more interactive, tag the photographs so that you can go back and look at them later. And another key component is our high definition. And so now you've got a high definition video camera built into the still camera"

The Z1012 IS …for instance…does HD…includes ten megapixels of resolution and a 10X optical zoom with image stabilization…for about 300 dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
