A Wireless Speaker System for iPods

A wireless speaker system for iPods. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. There are hundreds…maybe thousands…of add on speaker systems and other devices out there for Apple's iPods these days. They range from products that are very low end and sound it….to very high end…and both cost it and sound it. One of the higher end systems is the Griffin Evolve….and what's unique is the design….and the ability to simply pick up the cube shape speakers and carry them anywhere around the house….while the music keeps playing. Griffin's Jackie Ballinger… says unlike some wireless sytems…the Evolve does not use Bluetooth…

"It's a digital RF, which actually allows it to have a lot farther range. It's a hundred and fifty foot range. It works through walls, which Bluetooth has a hard time doing sometimes. There is ten hour battery life on them, they are lithium ion. So ten hours of playback time. Perfect for entertaining, you can take them all throughout the house. Just a really great addition, wireless speakers really change the way you listen to music in the house."

Charging…and even adding additional speakers….is simple…

"There is a platform. There's three little metal contacts on there and the instant those speakers touch those contacts they charge. That's how it joins the network. So it's a wireless network and the instant any speaker touches the contacts they join the network. So it's actually unlimited the number of speakers you can add to the evolve."

Besides the iPod dock, you can plug in other sound sources through a line in port as well. The price? Under 300 dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
