Turning Toddlers into Authors

Techstination feature for Wednesday, February 27, 2008

Turning toddlers into authors. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Vtech is partnering with Disney on a new electronic learning toy called Create a Story. And instead of just having a product that can read stories to kids, Vtech senior marketing director Samara Tuchband says…

"This is an interactive story reader that allows the child to create their own stories. So they can take the pieces and parts of their favorites, the bundled title it comes with is My Friends Tigger and Pooh, but this allows the child to choose the place, pick their characters that are going to participate, objects, actions. And then hit play and hear their own version, their own personalized story come to life."

On the device itself…or on a TV that can be plugged into it. The digital composition may make the story sound a bit like a call to directory assistance…(sound)… .but kids may like having that kind of creative control. Vtech says four additional titles will be available at launch later this year. Also new for toddlers…a DJ console of sorts…the Kiddy Jams Musical Piano…with a removable MP3 player. It will sell for about sixty dollars….and comes with such timeless hits as Three Blind Mice, Bingo and Where Oh Where has My Little Dog Gone. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
