Online Gift Registry Without Limits

Techstination feature for Friday, February 29, 2008

An online gift registry…without limits. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Gift registries are pretty common for couples getting married and babies on the way…. and typically, these days, they can be found on the Web. But they are tied to specific stores. A site called MyRegistry.com aims to get rid of those limits…and expand the use of gift registries overall. Founder and chief executive Oded Berkowitz….says signing up is free…

"Takes about twenty seconds to do so…and then just go shopping. You can go to any store's Web site, any where in the world, see any item that you might want to add onto your registry, click on my button, and it's there. The reason we started MyRegistry.com was because we realized that there was a tremendous void in the marketplace for a truly global, cohesive registry."

And about getting more people to use gift registries for events like birthdays and such….Berkowitz says…from his vantage point…there's nothing tacky about it…

"People spend very, very good money on gifts for their friends and family and you might as well put it to use. It also prevents returns to the stores. People re-gift items that they get. And you know, I think when you give somebody a gift, the bottom line is, you give it for them to enjoy and use. fishkin"

Among the ways MyRegistry.com makes money is by offering comparison pricing information…for other retailers that carry the items being purchased. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
