Another New Media Player from SanDisk

Techstination feature for Thursday, March 20, 2008

Another new media player from SanDisk. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It's about the size of an iPod Nano….but adds some big features at a smaller price. The new Sansa Fuze will arrive early next month…and SanDisk spokeswoman Carmella Lyman says music, photos, video and voice recording are just the start of what it can do….

"It has an FM tuner, some new features like pod cast support, we've also added audio books. It's just a smaller, more compact player that people can grab and go to really be entertained. I think what's key is also the price. For a two gigabyte, you get an 80 dollar price tag. We also have it in four and eight gigabytes."

The Fuze also has a micro SD memory card slot….that can take high capacity cards. That means you can add another 8 gigabytes…and transport music, photo and video files easily between mobile phones, PCs and the player…

"So we see kind of an evolution. The ability to port your content. I think there's always a time and place for a music player, a video player, depending on what you're using it for. But we also see the importance of that micro SD slot and the cards that you can move your content around."

SanDisk says battery life is up to 24 hours of use on a charge for audio…and 5 hours for video. The Fuze can record from the built in FM radio as well. While SanDisk's user interface is not as slick as Apple's…it is good, straight forward and simple. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
