A world where everything…or almost anyway…can be connected to the Internet. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Okay…. do you know anybody anymore over the age of 12…who doesn't have a mobile phone. The saturation has reached something like 84 percent in the U.S. according to the mobile industry association. But Qualcomm…that biggest company that makes chips for the phones….says there's still plenty of opportunity for growth out there. Who says mobile phones are the only things that should be using the networks of wireless carriers. CEO Paul Jacobs….

"There's a lot of opportunity to now start selling people multiple radio devices. And I think you're already starting to see that. You're seeing devices come out like the Amazon Kindle, which has an EVDO radio built right inside it. It's not really sold as a wireless device, it's just sold as a book reader that you can buy the books right on demand and get them right away. And so I think more and more you're going to see that kind of a model, where you have a consumer electronics device or a computing device with wireless built in. For example, Dell announced that they're going to be using our Gobi modem, which is a radio which allows you to use any of the broadband, wireless technologies that are out there in 3G. So WCDMA, or EVDO. And you can use that worldwide."

The wirelessly connected gadgets could work anywhere….as long as they're within reach of a carrier's signal. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
