Saving Money on Printing...OKI Data Sees Opportunity

Techstination feature for Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Saving money on printing. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Lots of consumers and companies are looking for ways to save money in a tightening economy. Printing at home or in a home office can get to be pretty expensive. Kodak…with its line of ink jet all in one printers…has reduced the cost per print for consumers. OKI Data…is among the companies seeing increasing sales of its all in one color laser printers….which have dropped in price and are affordable for homes and home offices with significant printing needs. OKI Data Americas CEO Stewart Krentzman says the economy is taking a toll…but is also an opportunity…

"Business purchasing seems to have slowed down, especially if they're not cost justified. So, Fred, if you can demonstrate to a customer that you can save them money and that they can see an ROI on a printer or a multifunction product than they are very, very interested. From that perspective, I think the economy has caused businesses to take a harder look at the purchases they are making. But as long as they can see the return on investment, they are on board."

The company has announced a new model…the C3600n….priced at under 400 dollars…with features aimed at the home office user…

"It's a pretty tight unit, meaning space saving, you can fit it into a smaller home office. Time to first page is 12 seconds for color."

The printer works with Macs and either Windows or Linux based PCs. And while it may not replace a true photo printing ink jet printer in terms of quality….it comes pretty close…and on any type of paper. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
