The Surfacing of Surface

Techstination feature for Monday, April 28, 2008

The surfacing of Surface. Microsoft's tabletop technology arrives in select AT&T stores. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It is the first time everyday consumers are getting a chance to literally get their hands on Microsoft's Surface computers. The first five have been installed in AT&T stores in New York, Atlanta, San Antonio and San Francisco. And there are more to come. Place a mobile phone on top of the Surface....and you can see lists of the features....use your hands on the Surface to bring up coverage maps...zooming in or out. Microsoft's Mark Bolger, senior director of marketing for Surface, says ..

"Surface computing allows for more natural interaction with digital content."

Microsoft has deals to bring Surface computers to Harrah Casinos and Resorts, T-Mobile and Starwood Hotels and Resorts. Prices start at about 10 thousand dollars...but eventually...Microsoft's vision is...to bring Surface into the home and workplace...

"We see a day where Microsoft Surface and Surface computing is pervasive. Bill had a vision thirty years ago where we would have a computer on every desk. We've pretty much achieved that vision. And now with Microsoft Surface, our vision is that every desk, can be a computer. Not only every desk, but every surface. So you can imagine walking into your home, and your kitchen countertop is a surface."
