Cleaning without chemicals. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. A company called Tersano is out with new models of what it calls the Lotus Sanitizing System. You place a plastic bowl or a spray bottle filled with water…on top of the system base….turn it on….and the machine super-oxygenates the water. In the bowl…the process removes pesticides and bacteria from fruit or vegetables. In the spray bottle…the water can be used to sanitize and clean any surface. To skeptics, Tersano CEO Steve Hengsperger says it's the same process used my many municipal water companies…and water parks…to purify water…

"In the base, we actually split oxygen molecules into separate little oxygen atoms and this is where sometimes I dumb it down…but I'm going to go straight technical. So that extra oxygen atom links up with some additional oxygen molecules to become O3 which is ozone. And then we saturate that ozone into the water and pump that back up into the spray bottle attachment. And we just continuously do that until we get the right amount of charge in the water, the right amount of ozone. Any ozone that we don't saturate into the water, we totally break down before we emit it out into the environment."

The results seem impressive. There have been issues with a drinking water purification system sold by Tersano according to Consumer Reports. The company tells us that on that product it is the distributor…not the manufacturer…and it is working on a new system due out next year. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin
