The new Netflix Player from Roku. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Netflix has been a pioneer in using the Internet to rent movies on DVD. Join….go online and pick the movies you'd like to see….and they arrive in your mailbox within a day or two. The simplicity and convenience have attracted 8 million subscribers. Subscribers can also choose to stream a more limited library…and watch on Windows based computers. Now…there's another option… a little 99 dollar box…that connects to your family room or bedroom TV…..that connects to the Internet. It can be wired or wireless. Then using a remote….you can watch movies you've placed in an online cue. There's no extra charge for customers with Netflix subscriptions that run at least 8.99 a month. Roku VP Tim Twerdahl…

"It's a great value. You pay once and you're able to stream as much and as often as you want from the Netflix service as long as you maintain your Netflix subscription."

One drawback…is the more limited movie selection. Twerdahl says that is changing…

"It's growing really quickly. When I started working on this project less than a year ago, we only had about three thousand movies from Netflix. And now there are ten thousand. So they're on a great trajectory to add to the library. And they have a strong commitment to keep growing the library and bringing new content to the instant service."

The quality of the video is good….not what you'd get on a Blu-ray rental on disc on a high def screen…but more than acceptable. Netflix is working with other consumer electronics companies such as LG…to bring its movie library to more devices as well. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
