Portable Navigation Device With Real Connections

A portable navigation device…with real connections. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Lots of portable navigation devices on the market today have the ability to receive real time traffic data. The Dash Express…goes the extra mile…so to speak. Dash Navigation President Rob Currie…

"We're building a connected…world's first connected… GPS navigation device. It's got a WiFi radio…a cellular radio…and a GPS. And it's always connected. And then we use that connectivity to provide a number of things, the first of which is we measure traffic based on all the other Dash devices as they travel around a vicinity."

The Dash Express…which sells for about 400 dollars….comes with three months of connectivity. After that, it is priced at about 120 dollars a year. There's also a one hundred dollar discount being offered at the moment for buyers through Amazon.com. The unit with the built in WiFi and mobile radios…is also bulkier than many other navigation devices on the market. But it's that connectivity that makes the Dash worth considering…

"Because we're connected, we use the Internet so you can go out and search for just about anything. So let's say you are searching for dim sum. On most devices you'd only find restaurants that are named Dim Sum. On a Dash device, you type it in, we've partnered with Yahoo…and you'll get back not only restaurants that are named Dim Sum but also restaurants that serve Dim Sum and their community ratings."

The connections mean the Dash can also display movie times and gas prices and such. You can find more information at Dash.net. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
