Printing goes green. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. With more and more consumers and businesses opting to go green with all kinds of products, Hewlett Packard is out with a printer that is about as green as it gets. The Deskjet D2545. Michelle Price, HP's environmental marketing manager for the imaging and printing group, says the plastics in the printer contains 83 percent recycled materials…

"And we reduced the energy consumption of this product by 40 percent. It also has the HP 60 inkjet cartridges that are made from recycled material processed through the point of partners program."

The printer…is priced at about 45 dollars….helping consumers save some green as well. As for the recycling of ink cartridges, Price says…

"When a customer purchases a new cartridge, in the box is an envelope that is self addressed and stamped. And the customer just drops their old cartridge into the envelope and returns it to us. It's free, postage paid, to HP."

A black ink cartridge rated for a yield of 600 pages is priced at 30 dollars. A color cartridge sells for 35. About print quality and the durability of the printer…HP says…

"The specs are the same. It prints 26 pages per minute in black and 20 pages per minute in color. So it prints very fast. It has a beautiful print."

Price says some of the greener changes will be migrating through HP's entire line up. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
