Another Challenger to Apple's iPhone

Another challenger to Apple's iPhone. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. The new 3G iPhone goes on sale later this month….and there will, no doubt, be customers lined up once again to buy. But there are some worthy competitors. Sprint customers have been snapping up the Instinct from Samsung. It has iPhone style looks…right down to the packaging….along with a touch screen and email and Web browsing on Sprint's high speed network. Sprint's Michelle Leff Mermelstein….

"The way the Instinct differs is first and foremost the network. The 3G iPhone will be operating on AT&T's 3G network. Our footprint of our network is five times greater. So 3G speeds are wonderful if you can get them. Besides that, there's a lot of little nuances that we think are pretty key. We have a camcorder, they don't. We offer stereo Bluetooth. The new 3G iPhone won't. Our integration of GPS is smooth and seamless. For example, if I use the LiveSearch application, which again we have and the iPhone doesn't, and I say go to search and I say pizza, it'll find us the nearest pizza place in town."

The Instinct…has a price advantage as well…at 130 dollars with a two year contract. It also has a user replaceable battery, in fact two are included in the box. The iPhone still has an edge with its multi-touch interface and WiFi capability….along with all of the new software being developed for the platform. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
