An Online Organizer That Follows You... Evernote

Techstination feature for Friday, July 11, 2008

An online organizer that follows you everywhere. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. After having been available in beta by invitation only...an online service called Evernote is now available to everyone. CEO Phil Libin...

"The idea is that Evernote is your external brain. So whenever something happens that you want to remember, you put it into Evernote and then you can find it, wherever you are, years later, or months later or whenever you need to find it. And you can remember things either that happened to you on your computer, so you can highlight a section of a Web page or an email or anything else you want to save, push a button and then it goes into your Evernote account. Or you can remember stuff that happens in the real world by taking a picture of it with your camera phone. For example somebody's business card or a white board or a wine label if you go to a restaurant and find a bottle of wine that you like that you want to remember for next time. Or you can take a voice note or a text note, basically any way that you can capture a piece of information. And all of this goes up to the Evernote servers and gets processed and synchronized back to your clients. PC clients, Macintosh clients, Web clients. And then wherever you are you can always search and find information. So everything that happens to you, you have it at your fingertips."

The basic service...which includes up to 40 megabytes of information uploaded a month...is free. The premium level...with up to 500 megabytes a month...costs 5 dollars monthly or 45 dollars a year. Use it for a while...and it's hard to do without. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
