Backyard Baseball in the Family Room

Techstination feature for Thursday, July 17, 2008

Backyard Baseball...in the family room.   Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology.   Humongous...is out with the latest generation of its Backyard Baseball title....which features the cartoon likenesses of big leaguers...playing as kids.  And Co-President Lauren Schectman says new this year...is a version for the Nintendo Wii console...

"It's still the same Backyard Baseball game.  But with the Wii, the mechanics and the Wii remote make it so that you can throw and you can hit and you can run using the remote.  So it's basically the same game, but it gets you up off the couch and you have to actually move the remote so that the mechanics are more precise.  It's a little bit of a challenge.  And a little bit of a workout."

Which is what the Wii is all about.   About the age range Backyard Baseball appeals to, Schectman says....

"What we have done over the last couple of years is updated the graphics and tweaked the game play, so that it can not only appeal to a child who is five years old and is just learning how to play baseball and just learning how to play with video games.  But also a 12 year old."

Besides the Wii version which sells for about 40 dollars...Backyard Baseball 2009 is available for the Playstation 2 and the PC.  Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
