Notetaking....the next generation.   Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology.   The coolest gadget a  student can take back to college next month...isn't the latest iPhone or Mac Book....although those are pretty cool.   The Livescribe Pulse has gone on sale at Target and Amazon....and for students and other note takers.... it's hard to think of a more useful piece of technology.   It is a pen...equipped with a tiny camera in the tip...that tracks and stores what you are writing...using notebooks printed with nearly invisible dots.   At the same time...the pen records what is being said...in a lecture hall...or meeting.   When you go back and tap on your notes with the pen...it plays back what was said at that moment.   And it all gets transferred through a little USB charging dock...to your PC.  Marketing director Eric Petitt...

"We think broadly, this is a product that's great for anyone who uses pen and paper.  Two groups that we think are really jazzed about this product based on our research.  One is college students.  College students are heavy note takers and they are naturally lovers of new technology.  The other group is professionals.  Folks who love new technology.  Folks who are bringing pen and paper into their workplace whether they be journalists or lawyers or business professionals."

A Pulse smartpen with 1 gigabyte of storage sells for 149 dollars.   A 2 gigabyte version is 50 dollars more.    A 4 pack of notebooks for the pen, sells for about 20 dollars.   Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
