Nintendo Running Away From Its Rivals

Techstination feature for Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Nintendo is running away from its rivals. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. With the addition of the Wii Fit....Nintendo's momentum in the video game industry is continuing. The Wii has become the number one selling console...in the latest generation of game machines....passing Microsoft's Xbox 360...which had a year head start. And Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime says new features announced at this summer's E3 trade show aim to keep the company out front...
"In our view, what we're trying to do is bring consumers more and more into that immersive experience. We announced the Wii Motion Plus accessory for the Wii remote, which really takes the motion of your Wii remote to a new one to one level. We announced Animal Crossing coming this holiday with a Wii Speak microphone attachment that lets consumers communicate room to room. We made announcements from a third party perspective as well. A range of products coming out on Wii as well as some great titles coming out on the Nintendo DS, including Spore from EA and a new Grand Theft Auto coming out on the Nintendo DS."
Nintendo...with its unique controllers and software....has been able to expand the audience for video games. And Fils-Aime says....
"Audience expansion is just getting started."
Among the upcoming titles...is Shawn White's Snow Boarding from Ubisoft....one of a number of games on the way that will make use of the balance board that ships with the Wii Fit. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
