Movies on game consoles. The best deal on the horizon is from Microsoft and Netflix. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Sure there were lots of new games announced at this summer's E3 trade show....but Sony and Microsoft also spent lots of time talking about the growing capabilities of their game consoles to download movies and TV shows...many in high definition. And Microsoft also announced a deal that will allow Netflix movies to be streamed through the Xbox 360. Senior VP Don Mattrick.....
"We're constantly trying to expand our strategic entertainment partnerships with studios, with content aggregators. Netflix has been a company that's been committed to growth in this space. They've brought new business models, new technology to bear. We were able to approach the group, share with them what we're doing with the new Xbox Experience which will come out this fall. They loved it and we were able to find a fit and grow both our businesses together."
Do you get a share of the revenues from the streaming movies?
"As you can imagine, we have so many deals, we never comment on the exact details, and this falls into that camp."
Microsoft is planning to refresh the entire Xbox 360 interface this fall.....and with it will come the Netflix capabilities...and more. New boxes...selling for about 350 dollars...will include a beefed up 60 gigabyte hard drive. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
