Touch of Color Helps Samsung Sell More LCD TVs

Techstination feature for Friday, August 1, 2008

New LED LCD TVs from Samsung.   Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology.      Walk into a warehouse store or consumer electronics retailer these days....and you see screen after screen.   Despite the economy, flat screen, high definition TVs continue to sell.    And Samsung Electronics claims its market share is growing faster than the competition.   It has announced the Series 9 LCD TVs....the company's second generation to use LED technology...with a contrast ratio of a million to one.   Like other Samsung models...even some screens designed as monitors....the company has added color....red...and in some high end screens...blue...to the surrounding bezel.  Executive VP Tim Baxter says the Touch of Color strategy has worked...

"Through the second quarter alone, Samsung has 8 of the top ten selling, revenue producing TVs, many of which are these high end, Touch of Color based products.   So consumers are in fact choosing this based on its design and its performance."

Series 9 pricing starts at about 32 hundred dollars for a 46 inch screen.   A new Series 6 46 inch screen...also with the Touch of Color....is about 11 hundred dollars less.   Samsung is also looking to grow its digital camera business....with some pocket sized consumer models including 14 megapixel sensors.       Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
