Blurring the lines between what is real...and what is computer generated. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. What if computer generated characters in movies or video games ...looked so real....they couldn't be distinguished from actors. The same goes for the settings around them. Advanced Micro Devices calls it Cinema 2.0.....and says marketing chief Nigel is not 5 or 10 years away....

"Really what we're doing for the first time is fusing the worlds of cinema and game playing into a single medium. Think about taking what used to be hundreds, if not thousands, of servers that were required to render an image and reducing it almost to a single chip. So you can have a game experience which is cinematic and even a cinematic experience in which you can get to play with the characters."

Rendered characters look like real people or real settings...

"It's actually quite amazing. We showed some video footage of a New York street. And when you first look at it, you go, that's easy. You just go out and film it. What's interesting is that as you pull back, you discover it's actually not a New York street. It's a rendered image of New York street. The taxis look like taxies. The buildings look like buildings. But they're actually just an electronic set."

AMD in the meantime is claiming it's new Radeon 4870 X2 graphics card....delivers the fastest image processing on the market. The card...aimed primarily at the gaming community, sells for 549 dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
