Getting Trapped by a Better Mouse

Techstination feature for Monday, August 25, 2008

Getting trapped by a better mouse. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Logitech...the number one maker of computer out with an update to its desktop and notebook products. The new MX 1100 for desktops is at the high end...selling for about 80 dollars. It includes a switch for changing the sensitivity of the laser sensor....and is sculpted for comfort. For notebook users, the focus is on convenience with the V550 Nano mouse. Logitech's Kate Brinks...

"It has all of the latest features that we've introduced over the past three years. So it's got the hyper fast scrolling, laser tracking, our new nano receiver that you don't have to remove every time you travel from place to place. And what's new is the clip and go dock. And we know that people love using their mouse with the laptop. It's much more comfortable than the touchpad or the point stick. But the problem is, when you're moving from the kitchen to the living room or from your office to a meeting, you have to kind of choose what you're going to take with you and sometimes the mouse gets left behind because you only have two hands. So with this mouse, we have a little dock that attaches to your laptop. And you can just snap the mouse on and go."

It is a handy feature. Combined with the tiny USB receiver that barely makes using the V550 much more convenient overall. Logitech says the battery life...from two double about 18 months. The price, about 60 dollars. Logitech faces competition from Microsoft and from a variety of high end gaming mice makers. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
